Brain-based Learning Research from neuroscience and cognitive science has been influential on the teaching and learning of gifted/talented students. This research may prove especially powerful for under performing or disengaged gifted students. It is essential for educators to be aware of the implications of brain research, and how to best interpret the findings to meet the needs of gifted/talented students. This session synthesizes relevant research findings, important brain-learning basics, and the qualitative differences among kinds of learning experiences. To truly differentiate the learning environment, teachers must proactively plan respectful learning opportunities that engage the learner enough to make sense of the information and to create new forms of knowledge. Working WITH Parents of Gifted/Talented/Creative...or just really smart kids!
Parents of high ability children can sometimes be very demanding. This workshop will help teachers and schools work with parents of high ability children to improve the educational setting and parent-school relationships.
